It was close to the edge of the desert. Just far enough that one could say they were indeed in the desert, but a brisk pace could easily carry someone into the nearby mountain range. Cool air still made it's way down from the mountains before it warmed to match the desert heat. This was where a blue blob, a canimu, and a chromillia flower-tree stood around a pathetic little puddle of water surrounded by sand.
Vi, the blue basic blob, was explaining their plan to the animal and the plant. They knew this was questionable behavior if another blob was around, but Violet (the only other blob Vi had met) had vanished into the mountains days ago and they were alone with no one to judge them. "I'll start with a fountain." Vi said, "Since you've stuck with me so far, it's the least I can do for you Vapor." The canimu simply tilted her head at her name. Then the blob addressed the tree as it hummed, "and Chrom... well I'm not sure you need water... but... if you do... it'll be there." Vi took the continued humming as acknowledgment. Then the blob turned back to the canimu, "Even though it is for you. I'm going to need your help. Can you help me?" The canimu tilted her head the other way but knew enough that the little blue thing she followed around was looking for a response and so delivered an affirmative ‘woof’. “Okay! So…” The blob turned towards the space they were working with. The puddle that they had made was in the shade Chrom provided, “We need a bigger pit first…”
Looking to the sad little puddle Vi figured it was as good a starting point as any. It was completely in the shade of the chromillia but far enough from the base to avoid any obvious roots. What shape should the fountain be though. Round, like a blob? Or, Vi considered as they glanced at the sky and the stars in view, star shaped? Both-ish? Well, they should measure it out first.
Settling at the edge of the puddle closest to the chromillia. Vi rolled forward into the water and out the other side in one rotation. Rolling on Vi counted each rotation as a form of measurement. They stopped on the 6th roll. “Vapor, come here please.” The canimu, standing by the pool still, walked forward and plopped herself into the puddle of water instead. Vi huffed, a smile tugging their lips, “That’s fine. I got this one.” The blue blob turned to wiggling itself into the sand. Displacing as much as possible to make an obvious dent for the center to be measured by. Six more rolls after and Vi marked out the opposite end by wiggling into the sand some more. If Vi had known of any measurements from before, they might have known the line they had made in the sand was about a ten-meter distance end-to-end. As they didn’t, Vi dubbed the length twelve rolls and proceeded to measure out twelve rolls again and again. Each one intersecting with the center dent in a radial design in the sand.
