Thank you.
The dawn was what started Clou'lin's day off. The light appearing just over the horizon and lighting up the sands of her desert home slowly reached her eyes, and brought her out of the deep slumber she'd fallen into previously. With a yawn and a shake of her blobby body, she rose out of her sleeping spot and started moving around. For a warm-up, she ran around the base of her chromilia friend, before splashing her face with fresh water to wake up further. As she awoke, her meowlers did as well, curious and following after her as she moved around with newfound excitement.
Indeed, the new day had brought her a new mission, directly from the goddess Ichor herself.
Frankly it was more of a request than a mission, she supposed, but she felt that if it were coming from her goddess, it was a tad more important than any simple request.
Ichor had requested of her and the other life bloblings to plant some seeds that she had been given. Of course she had planned to plant them in her garden oasis, at least for the moment, but she realized she likely already had the seeds planted there, and determined the seeds would enjoy some new scenery, perhaps away from civilization and.... sand. A chance to grow in a new environment and potentially thrive. She determined by her own merit that this would be for the best.
Of course, the other half of Ichor's request was to make some friends. Naturally, Clou'lin doubted she'd have much issue with that at all, though she did wonder what her chances would be of meeting a new friend along the way to whatever gardening spot she could find.
With no more preparation to do, she gathered up the bundle of seeds she'd been given, and prepared to head off. She gave her chromilia friend and every single one of her meowlers a kiss goodbye.
"I'll see you guys later, okay? Be good!"
As she wobbled away, her meowlers called after her, supposedly giving farewells and wishes of good fortune, the chromilia above them humming a farewell in turn. Thus Clou'lin's journey began.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had certainly been quite some time before Clou'lin had left her home in the sands. She had passed by and given greetings to many of the chromilia she passed on her way, though she wasn't sure exactly how far she'd traveled on her own. Of course, she hadn't met anyone who could tell her how far she had traveled or exactly where she'd traveled. She didn't mind it too much, however. The feeling of traveling and searching for a new place was quite exciting for the blobling indeed. Though the seeds were beginning to feel strangely heavy. With a sigh, she settled into the sand and set the seeds on the ground. While she rested, she looked around as far as she could see. There wasn't much aside from the chromilia and the other wildlife that flourished in the sands, but she enjoyed the peace a little bit. She had been on the move for quite a bit, and it was good for her to rest her feet..... or lack thereof.
Though, occasionally, as she looked into the distance, she swore she could see something. Large, bright, and green... a marvel to behold. Though every time she seemed to want to move towards it, it disappeared. It was strange indeed. Clou'lin wondered if this is what they called "mirages", though she could swear that what she'd seen was real.
Nevertheless, when she determined she'd had plenty of rest, she moved back up and grabbed the seeds. She carried them along with her as she traveled further across the sands, continuing on her journey.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clou'lin couldn't help but feel a little weary as she continued to cross the sands, for miles and miles, and for how long, she could no longer remember. The sun remained as high in the sky as ever, almost as if no time had passed at all, even though she could swear that she had traveled quite a ways away from home. Yet she couldn't even see the edge of the sands yet.
She supposed it might be due to a lack of extra appendages to carry her along, as she was still a small, bouncing blob. She hadn't evolved yet like the others. Though she hadn't meant it to be negative, it was a bit disencouraging for herself to hear. Just a plain blobling traveling across the sands alone. What did she expect?
Still, she felt determined to continue on, despite how tired she was and how heavy the seeds felt on her back. She continued to take hop after hop, step after step, in the sand. It was exhausting work to travel so far, but she would keep trying regardless.
Though, as she continued on her journey, she could swear someone was watching her...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Soon there came a time when Clou'lin could no longer continue. The sun beat down on her body as she lay in the sand, catching her breath, sounding very tired indeed.
"If I'd known the desert was so wide and so long and so.......... big... I'd probably have taken a trip in spurts instead..."
She let out another sigh, rather frustrated, at her lack of foresight on the matter. Of course, she'd been just a bit too impulsive this time, and hadn't prepared enough for the journey ahead. She wasn't ready to give up yet, but she was too tired to continue for the moment. She was about to close her eyes and doze off in the sand, when she heard someone approach.
".... Hello? Who's there?"
At the sound of approaching footsteps... or rather, pawsteps, she raised her eyes to see who had chosen to draw near to her in her time of need.
She was shocked by what she saw.
-------------------------------------------------------
"Mrrowr?"
Clou'lin was almost positive the creature in front of her was a meowler... And yet, it was unlike any Meowler she'd ever seen before. Its fur, its eyes, its horns, even its paws were so strange and unusual to her. She was impressed of course, but unbelievably curious, as she wondered how exactly this meowler came to be... and why it was in front of her.
"Um... Hello?"
She did hope that the meowler would understand her and respond in turn.
"Mrrowr!"
Well, that solves that, I suppose.
"Wow, hi.... I'm... I'm not sure if you can understand me, but would you be willing to help me out?"
In response, the meowler sat on its haunches in front of her, tilting its head, as though as asking for a further explanation.
"You see, I have a mission to fulfill... I have to plant these seeds, and I want to plant them somewhere special..." She held up the bundle of seeds to the meowler, whose eyes seemed to widen in response. "But.... I'm exhausted. I've traveled so far and I don't know how much further there is to go. I just need to get moving again."
As if in understanding, the meowler gave a nod and padded forward. Carefully, it picked up Clou'lin by the scruff (or whatever it could grab on, frankly, just bear with me here) and lifted her onto its back, seeds and all.
"Mrowr?" It seemed to ask.
"Huh?" Clou'lin couldn't understand the question, but it didn't seem to matter.
With Clou'lin secured, the meowler leapt forward and began bounding across the desert sands, so quickly that the world was a blur around Clou'lin as they traveled together.
"Whoa!!!"
It definitely wasn't the smoothest ride she'd ever been on, but she was enjoying it so far. As the Meowler bounded along, she let out a whoop and few yells, making sure to hold onto the meowler's fur and the seeds altogether.
Clou'lin's journey had yet to end, it seemed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clou'lin and her new meowler friend had long since passed the sands of the desert behind, and were now on their way to a new location, one Clou'lin had just yet to visit. Still, the meowler seemed to know exactly where it was going, so she didn't attempt to question its ways. They continued bounding along, until they began to move seemingly uphill. Clou'lin made a greater effort to hold onto her new meowler friend as they climbed, until they reached a flattop, and the meowler slowed down to a trot. It was far smoother than the bounding of earlier, so Clou'lin relaxed quite a bit as they traveled along. Soon enough, they reached the mouth of a cave, and upon walking inside... were met with the gentle glow of sunlight, and the pleasant green of grass, ferns, and all sorts of plant life.
"Wow.... This is amazing..."
Clou'lin was most certainly impressed and amazed at the scenery. It seemed like something right out of her dreams, a quiet cave grotto filled with plants of all kinds. She had never seen this place before, and she desperately wanted to have it committed to memory before she forgot all about it.
It was then the meowler sat on the ground, and carefully lifted Clou'lin off its back. It gestured to a patch of dirt in the center, in which it began to dig a bunch of holes.
"Oh? Oh! You want me to plant the seeds here!!"
"Mrrow!"
The meowler seemed delighted that Clou'lin had understood.
When the digging had ceased, Clou'lin moved forward with the seeds, and began planting them in the little holes that had been dug for them. She made sure to cover each one and water them with water from the little nearby pond. She hopped around excitedly, delighted to have completed her mission, her meowler friend following around in similar fervor.
"I did it! I bet everyone will be really proud!!"
"Mrrowr!!"
The two laughed and ran around in celebration together for quite some time, in turn making the soil was well stimulated and churned for proper growth. Though, quite soon, Clou'lin would again find herself quite tired. Indeed, her strength had yet to come back, and she was about ready to pass out in the grass.
Thankfully, her Meowler friend seemed to take notice of Clou'lin growing faint, and wrapped itself around her blobby body just before she fell asleep. With its tongue, it cleaned the dirt off her body and cooled her down. It also gently placed a flower atop her head, purring as she drifted off.
"See you... when I wake up... friend..."
Those were the last words uttered by Clou'lin before she drifted off to dreamland.
The meowler purred in response, closing its eyes and allowing itself to drift off too as it kept her warm and protected.
----------------------------------------------------
Clou'lin was left to slumber for quite some time by the side of her new friend. When she awoke, however, she was back at the base of the chromilia, where she always slept. She looked around sleepily, shocked to find herself back home, safe and sound with her meowlers and her chromilia friend. The sky was dark, and the only source of light was her meowler friend, sitting on its haunches right in front of her.
"Did you carry me home?"
"Mrrowr."
Elated, Clou'lin hopped right up and gave her meowler friend a fullbody hug.
"Thank you thank you so so much!!! You were such a huge help!!"
The meowler let out a contented purr, nuzzling her in turn before standing up, turning away as if it were preparing to leave.
"Wait, where are you going? Don't you want to stay here?"
The meowler made no sound in response, simply shaking its head, then looking off into the distance. It seemed to have somewhere else to be.
Clou'lin was a little sad to be saying goodbye to her new friend so soon, but she simply nodded.
"That's okay. I understand." She paused. "Come back whenever you want, okay? I'll always be happy to see you."
The meowler turned and looked at her, and moved towards Clou'lin one last time, giving her a soft kitty kiss on the head. Clou'lin giggled, then waved her whole body as the meowler turned back, bounding back into the sands.
When she could no longer see the Meowler in the distance, she let out a content sigh and nestled right back into her sleeping spot, happy for what the day had brought her.
Clou'lin's journey had come to an end, but her friendship with her new friend would seem to last far longer.
---------------------------------------------------------
Up on the peak, overlooking the desert sands, Amangelea looked up into the sky, blue eyes glimmering with newfound optimism and joy.
"Mother..." She murmered, in a soft, almost ethereal voice. "This one... This one is... good. I have... hope."
She lowered her head, and in an instant-
She was gone.
