The first time Soma realizes something is wrong is a queer scent.
It's not sure what it is, but it is alluring. Its memories eventually supply it with the source-- a thing called... 'ash?'
It's something new, for sure, so it decides to roll out, curious about what's happening. It rolls towards the source.
Soon, it meets dark flakes, drifting down into the white sands, making them a strange grainlike mosaic of black and yellow.
Soma continues to roll onwards, and just as it crests the next dune, a chorus of panicked cooing hits the blobling, followed by a wave of monstrous heat. It can feel its blood recoil at that, as if it would dry up from the sheer heat.
The sight below can only be described as 'horrifying'.
Chromillias, faces distorted into expressions of fear and horror, dragging themselves along by their roots, moving at a snail's pace. Their neighbours cry in terror and cling to each other, flames licking at their stems.
It's no use. Soma watches as their attempts to garner help only set their partners aflame, the fires racing from one vine to another. Before its very eyes, it sees a wailing Chromillia attach itself to a partner, petals curling from heat and wilting, whilst the other attempts to drag itself away from its friend, leaving flaking and torn root behind. The fires engulfs its pained expression, and rasps it into shriveled strips of formless black.
Soma's first reaction is.. actually, it's not sure what to think of this. The feeling it's getting is pretty mortifying, like this is pretty traumatic to see, yes? But it doesn't actually know what that is.
So it's calm.
It winces, unsure if it should be feeling so calm. If anything, it should probably just look for a solution now. The fires are obviously dangerous. They have to be put out.
But looking at their sheer, destructive power (And oh, how they're actually kind of beautiful, but in a terrible kind of way), they have to be preserved somehow. Soma should find a container for it, if it can.
A great cooing howl of anguish crests, and Soma's reminded of the Chromillia. Their plight is really quite horrid to watch, somehow, so it should definitely do something about them first.
