Hancock sat nursing his chocolate milkshake. The tavern he was sitting in was only half way complete. But it had several tables made out of the black heart tree wood. The owner was presently working on a wall and the noise was starting to get on even his nerves. No wonder B, the mayor of this town was in desperate need of this sileret tree. If what she said was true. Then there might actually be a market for the wood. And he could become a rich blob.
He tossed back the last of the chocolate milk and slammed the misshapen mug down on the table. He rummaged around in his satchel and tossed three colored stones on the table and walked out. He had a cucumber to talk to.
“Hancock! Haven’t seen you around for numbers.” A blue and white blob called out from the alleyway.
“Ah cucumber. I see you haven’t made much progress on your stand." Hancock answered as he ambled over to where the sea slug-like blob was. He had nails in one of his frilled flippers and a piece of black heart board in his other hand.
“Oh, you know how hard it is trying to find the things you need. Just acquired this board when I traded a mystery box.” Cucumber placed the board down on the ground next to a pile of other boards, all of varying length. And tossed the nails into a pail. The way they clinked sounded like there were quite a few in there all ready.
“What brings you back to the onyx city. Did you find anything interesting?”
“I actually came here for you.” Hancock said.
“Me?” Cucumber perked up and swam closer.
“Have you heard of a silere tree?” Hancock asked.
“Silere tree? Silre, hm I seem to have heard that somewhere.” Cucumber paused and looked at Hancock expectantly.
Hancock dug around in his satchel and brought out three blue colored stones.
Cucumber’s eyes shone with glee. “Ah yes, now I remember. Not to long ago a blob came from the mountain saying he had found a clump of white trees. Now he claimed that no sound was produced no matter how much he tried.”
“That must be it. Thank you my friend.” Hancock reached into his satchel and pulled out a pure white stone. “For your troubles.” He held out the stones and Cucumber swiftly gathered up the stones.
“Not at all. And come back again. Maybe I will have this shop done by then.”
Hancock set out to cross the swamps as quickly as he could. He headed to the known trail that led up into the mountains. Which he reached after several numbers had passed. Normally he would take the time to search on his way but he was in a hurry. So he took out his magic glob. And held it up so that he would be able to see it better.
“Magic ball show me the Silere tree” Matlock said. He always felt silly talking to a ball of glass.
But as always the globe begane to glow softly. A picture started to form in the center. It was a white tree with blue strands that hung down from the branches. The wood from one of these trees could fetch quite the price just by being white.
Now that he knew what he was looking for he placed the globe back in his puch. From what the blob said he should be able to find these white trees quite easily.
Whistling a non sequence tune he started up the path. It took him a little over two numbers before he spotted a white that was not the stuff that had been piling up on the ground.
He moved off the trail and soon saw a tree, a little shorter than a bleeding heart tree. But unlike the black bark of the bleeding heart tree this one is pure white. And hanging from the sprawling branches hung thin strands like branches colored blue with something small at the end of it.
Beyond it was a small grove of the trees some taller then others but all had the same blue strands hanging from the branches.
“Hancock. You’ve done it again.” Hancock shouted. But his shout turned into a barely heard whisper. Hancock rooted around in his satchel and took out an ax. He had paid someblob dearly for this but it had come in handy numerous times.
The taller trees he passed over until he found a rather small one, one that he could easily carry. It didn’t take long to chop it down and he grabbed the top and started to drag it back to the city. He knew someblob there that had a Jetsa that owed him a favor. He could be back in B’s town in no time.
