Bloblings have noticed mysterious, gooey bloblings popping up in the world. Many bloblings are weary of them because of their resemblance to the tar from the tar pits, which have been known to eat bloblings for something called 'breakfast'.

"Where are you taking us, Harki? And for what purpose?" asked Ampersand as they bounced along behind their dubious friend. They had spent the whole trip looking between the enchanting sky, the sand, and their fellow travelers. Now, they glanced at Tidepool to see if she seemed to have any knowledge of the settlement they were approaching.
Ampersand switched to rolling, just for fun, and got a face full of sand. "Pbleghk!" they spat, surprised at how much something so small could sting. If it weren't for their smooth and everything-resistant skin-stuff, the sand would surely have gotten in every nook and cranny of their body as well.
Harki sighed, finally resigning themselves to the fact that it would be impossible to get a moment's silence with Ampersand. They looked out of the side of their eye to glance at Ampersand while still moving forward. He was still bouncing with that endless energy he seemed to possess. "Well, you see Ampersand, I'm taking us to the peculiar little... settlement. Area. We might find someone more knowledgeable than us. Or maybe it's empty. Who knows. There might even be-" they got cut off by Ampersand spitting out sand. Shaking their head slowly, they let out a much more audible sigh. "Oh, Ampersand... have you no sense?"

"Sorry, sorry," said Ampersand, feeling that bad hot feeling again. There was no way they'd look good or smart hacking up sand like that. They gave a merry laugh to shake the feeling off. "I suppose I don't. I'll work on acquiring some sense," they promised.
"Anyway, you were saying? You're taking us to that far off settlement place with all the lumps to see if someone there knows more than us." Ampersand wasn't so sure it was wise to assume there even was anyone else in the world, though of course they'd love to be proven wrong.
"What is it you want to learn? What are you looking for, Harki?" they asked. Their tone was of light curiosity, but Ampersand still didn't trust the little orange blob. Maybe, through the course of the conversation, they could get an idea what Harki's aims were.
Tidepool had no idea where they were going. She had not been to this part of the desert before, mainly because of the lack of water here. She much preferred the ocean, and wished she was there, had it not been for her friend, Ampersand, and her maybe-friend, Harki. She was still unsure about the latter. One moment they were shaming Ampersand and herself, telling them that them themselves should have all the power, and that they didn't understand, and the next they were saying that yes, the three were friends, and that they would follow the others. Something seemed off....maybe so off that she regretting agreeing to let Harki come along with them. She felt that any moment, Harki would turn their back on them again, leaving them behind. Betrayal. The word popped into her head. This is what she felt Harki would do to them.
Tidepool smiled as she watched Ampersand rolling around in his namesake, then spitting it out. "Where is this settlement," she added on to Ampersand's question, "Where exactly are we going, and why?"
Harki shook their head slowly and grumbled under their breath. Ampersand and Tidepool asked so many questions. Constantly bouncing off each other's words with who, what, where, why... it made them want to snap at the two. Instead, they composed themselves and thought of answer. "Hm. I'm looking for everything. I want to learn everything. That's the simple answer. After all, the more that you know, the more you can do. And don't you want to be able to do everything and anything? Doesn't it just sound wonderful?" "And as for you, Tidepool, it's in front of us. And I've already told you why I want to go there."

Well, it was a vague answer, but Amp couldn't fault them their universal curiosity. They felt the same -- though, for Ampersand, knowledge was the end in itself.
"I would love to be able to do all sorts of things," they said, glancing at the stars once more. What would it take to reach them?
They were content to follow their friends in relative silence for some moments, letting their thoughts and eyes rove around the desert.
Eventually, Ampersand decided to do another game with themself. Hopefully this wouldn't fail, but even if it did, Harki was pretty entertaining when annoyed. It was a win-win, really.
Ampersand closed their eyes, intending to see how well they could navigate purely by sound. It shouldn't be hard, thanks to the repetitive crunch of their friends' movements, and the smoothness of the sand.
But almost immediately, something stole their attention. There was a number sitting in the corner of Amper's eyes-closed vision. Furthermore, they sensed other . . . things -- digital objects -- taking up space in the dark.
Ampersand's eyes flew open, and they shouted, "WHOA. Do you guys see numbers when you close your eyes too!?"
Tidepool understood Harki's first answer, but didn't understand it when it came from Harki. After all, they didn't seem knowledge-seeking, like her, they seemed power-seeking. And that didn't fit. Tidepool suspected Harki's friendly new demeanor was a ruse. A lie. An act. But she went along with it, as Tidepool knew there was nothing she could do for now. Later she could worry about Harki's trustworthiness, now she had to focus on getting to the faraway settlement, across a large expanse of sand...with no water in sight. The only reason she was doing this was for Ampersand. And so she could keep an eye on Harki. The orange blobs second vague answer didn't help. She knew what direction it was. But what was there awaiting them at their destination? And then Ampersand exclaimed something about numbers. "I don't believe I do!" she said back at him, but blinked quickly just to check. Nope, just a blue expanse. She thought of it as her own little ocean.

Iora noticed they began to go somewhere, so she followed, listening to the conversation they were having, one of them seems to like rolling a lot, and dislikes the taste of sand, but she was curious, so she took a bite of the sand and spat some out, some of it was swallowed though. She doesn’t like the taste of sand. As she bounced, the sand taster mentioned numbers when they closed their eyes. Iora tried this and saw darkness, just like when she first started sending things. She opened her eyes again and continued with them, wondering what a settlement was.
Harki sighed irritably, turning slightly to look back at the group. Only a few moments silence and Ampersand was back to his never-ending babble of the most random things. What on earth was he talking about? Numbers in the darkness of your eyes? It sounded utterly absurd, though they had no idea why it wasn't normal. "I suppose I will entertain this little idea, Ampersand." they hissed quietly. Turning back forward to make sure they wouldn't run into anything like a fool, they closed their eyes, a tad bit disappointed to see nothing but black. Oh well. They supposed that those little numbers will stay with Ampersand. They turned back again, about to bite back with some snarky remark, when they spotted something. Someone was following them. They whipped around, stopping to face this strange new blob. They were that same cheerful yellow as Ampersand but their eyes... were a strange sort of purple. "Who are you." they spat, narrowing their eyes at the yellow blob.
Tidepool watched as Harki tried to see if he saw numbers too, and quite rudely. Not to her surprise, he also found that he saw just darkness. Huh. Turning back to look at them, maybe reprimand Harki about being so rude, she saw another blob. "Oh!" Tidepool said excitedly, "Who are you?" Taking a closer look at the newcomer, who seemed to had been following them for a while, she realized the fourth round blob looked quite similar to their friend Ampersand, in the way that their body was pale yellow, not unlike the sand underneath their fleshy figures. But on the contrary, her eyes were a lovely shade of vibrant pinkish purple, like nothing Tidepool had ever seen before. She loved it.
Ampersand started blinking rapidly. Maybe they were dreaming? What was dreaming? It must mean seeing things behind your eyes! they decided.
Whether they were dreaming or not, the numbers were there. And so were other things. Shapes? Symbols they intrinsically knew to represent the words they spoke? And even... some kinds of pictures. They were there, just out of reach.
Ampersand was about to say as much. Surely they couldn't be the ONLY one to see these things! But, just as they opened their mouth to encourage their friends to take another look, Ampersand saw that there was a fourth friend who had joined them. Ampersand hadn't gotten a good look at themself yet, but they could see pale yellow whenever they twisted on themself, and the expanse behind their eyes was a bluish purple.
"Whoa, we look so close!" Ampersand gasped, not thinking for a moment that that could be taken as a bad thing. As far as they saw it, they had a twin. And that was the neatest thing ever!
They went on to introduce the group to the newcomer. "I'm Ampersand! And this is Tidepool, and that's Harki. Careful," they whispered with a conspiratorial chuckle. "Harki's a bit prickly." Louder, they asked, "Did you just come out of the sand, too? What's your name?"
