Day 1: The Regret
Caspen knew that they wanted to be a rock solid shield of muscle, a beacon of glimmering hope and faith. The problem was that in order to get there, they actually had to work toward it. When they rolled up to the Coliseum, feeling as ready as they'd ever be, they were stunned by the size of the place, by the amount of bloblings fighting and working and resting and honing their skills. They instantly started to feel mushy and soft. "No. This is the only way," they told themself, halfheartedly.
Picking a random spot amidst the chaos, Caspen brought Zeno, their Terreden, toward them. "Hit me," they yelled up at the creature, who rumbled at the noise and then began to walk away. Caspen was disheartened, believing they should leave and come back another time. Maybe in a month or a year or a century, they'll be ready.
Rolling slowly back across the grounds, ready for a nap, Caspen caught something out of the corner of their eye. A rogue Camivian was sprinting towards them at full speed! Flattening their squishy body as much as possible, Caspen hoped and prayed to Ichor that they wouldn't be run over.
A few seconds passed that stretched into eternity. Finally, a whoosh of air mere inches from where they lay, followed by a heavy thud. When they slowly took themself off the ground, they saw that the Camivian had tried to fly over the walls of the grounds and had knocked straight into one. Caspen guessed they could both use some training. Bruised and with a mouthful of sand, Caspen got Zeno and rolled slowly back to the Smiley Sands.

Day 2: Zeno The Training Buddy
Already feeling like taking more hits, despite the horrible circumstances of the first day of defense, Caspen was ready for more. Their loyal, lovely Terreden was along for the ride again too.
After bonding with him more, Caspen actually did know how to make the gentle giant attack. They rubbed against his giant legs, then stopped. Rubbed. Stopped. Rubbed, paused, stopped. Began to rub. Suddenly, tail flicking wildly, Zeno flung one of his thick legs into the air, grumbling and bellowing. Caspen was thrown through the sky, rolling wildly through the sand before screeching to a halt. That was more like it.
Rolling quickly up to him, Caspen lightly touched each of Zeno's four trunklike limbs. They then flattened themselves against one, bracing for impact. The bellow of the angry Terreden sounded, raising onto it's back legs. a thunk then rose into the air, the sound of blobby flesh hitting rough, stonelike hide. Caspen allowed themself to be painfully thrown, vaguely yelled at, and trampled over and over before finally trying to calm the big baby back down.
Singing softly, they sang about how they would never touch him again if he would only follow them to their new home. They sang about how a treat waited for a good night's rest. Caspen was very aware of the giant blue splotches plaguing their entire body. It hurt like being digested by a blob-eating bulb.
After another minute of singing, being thrown one more time by accident, Caspen was able to get them back to their tower. Laying in a soft, downy bed, they thanked Zeno the coach for teaching them which hits they could or couldn't take. This sleep would be very well deserved. This treat would be even more deserved.

Day 3: The first failure
As they would probably never get one as a pet, Caspen was going to have to fight a wild smuck. Wow, it had actually been a while since they had fought anything, hadn't it? But with more control, they had grown immensely. One slimy creature couldn't be that bad. Hopefully.
As soon as they had entered the training grounds, a pulsating mass caught their attention. It was grosser than they could imagine. As if sensing their thoughts, the creature turned, staring straight at them. And it began to move. Fast. Dodge dodge dodge dodge dodge! Here it comes. Leaping out of the way, the thing seamlessly followed suit. Not able to throw it off, it looked like it would be hand to hand combat, and even if it was possible to escape, it was too late to go far. Ready.
A thunderous smack heralded the connection of ooze on flesh, and once it had connected, it wouldn't let go. It was slightly warm, and it would be comfortable if not also unsettlingly wet and sticky. This had to end soon. Being pulled in closer and closer, about half their body was now stuck inside the mass. Luckily, it was the half without claws. Slashing wildly at the substance, the only result was getting more covered in goop. Couldn't struggle. Well, guess this was the end. Being slowly absorbed by a horrible tar creature with nobody to hear them scream.
Hah, sike! Using their newfound leg strength, they launched out of the body of the beast, spinning to face it once more. Now they were truly ready. Or so they thought. Wham! Wham wham wham wham wham! It was hard to see as their head was bashed repeatedly into the walls of the grounds. They could taste something sweet and herby. I'm winning, they thought deliriously. I can bounce back. Wham! Wham! Darkness was creeping around their eyes. The smuck was all around them! Weakly reaching out, they clawed the air once. And fell limp.
They woke up later, much later, still in the training grounds. There were small puddles of blood in the sand, and everything hurt. No victory today. They gingerly limped home, mind buzzing. Loser. You lost. Better make it up tomorrow.
