There seemed to be an odd sort of feeling in the air today. Bloblings were ogling, cooing over and trailing one particular blob for no apparent reason. Well, at least Celia wasn't sure what the reason was. She hated to admit that all of this quiet bustling had caught her her attention. What was so amazing that it had attracted so many others? Celia sauntered over casually, remaining in the shade of the Chromillia trees as best she could, and leaned against the trunk of one to see what everyone was all excited over.
By the gods, this blob was beautiful. They were a gorgeous minty green and furry in all the right places (namely, the ears). Their eyes showed a sort of flattered interest, but calm. What shape was the pupil swimming in that violet pool? The gemlike heart inside a hollow chest! But it wasn't all beauty. This blob had violet hooves, and gorgeous watery wings. Celia made the decision to drop her cool (only so much as she absolutely had to) and came out from her hiding place to approach this new blob. Ah, such a gaze! Was that pupil the shape of a heart?
Celia offered a sweet, seductive sort of half-grin. As luck would have it, she and this new blobling were about the same height.
"I wish I had some better reason to say 'hi,' " Celia said. The minty blobling smiled in returned and gave a little laugh. Was it amused or flattered? Celia continued, "But 'hi.' I'm Celia, and you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen."
The minty blobling giggled and blushed. "Eye."
"Hm?"
"Eye." The minty blobling pointed up. Ah, of course! Celia felt like a fool! She was a cyclops! At least Celia wasn't too proud to laugh at herself, which she did.
Celia corrected herself. "Right, eye. So beautiful it could stand for two or more."
Now they laughed together, at the foolishness of it all and the flattery floating between them. Seduction was a silly thing. Subtle, when done correctly. Celia felt like she had done this before, though she couldn't remember it exactly. Something of the old world?
"I'm Arrietty," the minty blob said, "You can call me Ari. It's nice to meet you. I love these." Ari reached up and touched the golden rings that adorned Celia's horns.
"Thank you! I was born with them," Celia replied, and touched the ring in her own lip, "and this. Were you born with these?"
"My ears?" Ari asked, looking faux-surprised for a moment, then laughed, "I was. This one is my favorite." She touched her finger to the higher ring piercing, knowing where it was without having to feel around.
"I like it too," Celia said, and blushed herself. "You know, I heard there are these crazy new trees popping up all over Terrea. Something about a 'milkshake.' Do you want to go see if we can find one?"
Arrietty regarded the other blobs, one of which was now peering out atop a bush. She nodded. "Yes, I think I would."
Ari put her hand in Celia's and the pair began off on the search for a Milkshake Tree.
