As of 5/14 and the Agility/Endurance update, a good chunk of this analysis is now out of date. I will either update this post, or Lock/Archive it for legacy funsies and write up a new one. Soon(tm)
Please, PLEASE don't take this post as gospel. This is simply my observations based on other dice games I've played, and the ramblings of a man who's had one to many to drink & not enough sleep. For you, the most important stats to raise are the ones where you have fun writing/drawing the prompts! This write-up is merely here to provide some insight on how some stats interact, and to give you the biggest edge.
If you want to avoid all the data crunching & just see my opinion on the order you raise stats, jump to my TL;DR in post 3!
So you've converted your blob for stat based combat, and aren't sure where to start. Maybe you're bored at work and want to write a bit, or you just went through your first evo phase and have some points to spread out. You're looking at the list of stats, possibly trying to carve out an identity for your blob. Or maybe you just don't care, and want to munchkin your way to victory and want to know what you should raise first. All of these stats are great, but after thinking about it, some stats are simply better than others, at least in the early game.
For reference, I'm considering 'early game' in this context to be raising your stats up to level 3, and will be focusing my writeup on that. The prompts get longer the higher in level you go, but I think blobs can get all of their stats between levels 1-3 relatively quickly.
All of the information here (such as the stat's functions & levels) are pulled from Stat-based Combat: Stats & Prompts.
STRENGTH, HEALTH, AND DEFENSE
Strength lowers the number of hits you need to land to splat a blob, and Health & Defense combine to survive more hits. Woo!
If you're not sure which of these to raise first, take a peek below to see how many hits you can survive with a particular combination of stats. The info in the below post is all going to be pulled from this haphazardly thrown together chart. This wall-o-test will probably look a bit scary, but I'll condense it down a bit in the next post. Promise!
