Having set his first book free into the wilds of Terrea, Alistair once again found himself without much to do. Wandering the halls of the library, he cast his gaze upon the many books in hoping of finding something else that would pop out to him and inspire him. However, he was currently anyways, having no such luck. With a nearly silent sigh, he propped himself up against a bookcase staring instead at the pen held in his fingers. Just the pen that Dioscuri had handed to him, and nothing more. Yet to him, it still held its own sort of meaning.
He was drawn out of his thoughts by the rustling sound of another blobbling, or perhaps even multiple, entering the library. If he wasn't having any luck gathering inspiration on his own, perhaps talking to someone else may provide it instead. He approached the stranger with ease, speaking when the opportunity presented itself. " Sorry to interrupt, but are you here to simply... browse? Or are you here to write as well? " he questioned, being as blunt as he could without necessarily being rude. He'd leave them be if thats what they so wished, but for now, he'd simply wait for a response and see what happens. Just maybe they'd take the bait.

Nigiri was hovering on over to Onixia's one and only library for some research. Although he had been researching every time he came over here anyways. He still hadn't even started the grand project that he had been thinking of ever since coming into the world of Terrea. He was hoping to make an effort, thinking, 'Maybe I'll start this time'. He kept fighting internally with his procrastination until he walked through the open doors.
Nigiri was approached by a grey humanoid blob asking if he was browsing or writing. Funnily enough, this figure of theirs reminded Nigiri that almost all the important gods, godborns, and history makers of this world were mainly humanoid. 'Maybe Eris and their many forms, the godborn Reinala, and the Snekkitty father Daren were some of the few non-humanoids. The old elder Parabellum didn't really count and neither did Ichor's green snake hair 'Greenie' since they didn't do anything of importance yet. That left three out of eleven to thirteen total depending on if some blob counted Dios, Curi, and Dioscuri separately.'
"Hmm..." 'Maybe they will follow this trend.' He was lost in this long train of thought before realizing he was still in the middle of conversation with this new blob. 'Wait a moment. As well?' he thought. Maybe if he had peer pressure, he'd start to write. It wouldn't hurt to try.
"...Writing... I'm here to write." He took his first steps in speaking for the very first time. His fear of others would not stop his passion for writing.
Drizzle overheard the beginning of a conversation from the corner of the Onyxia Library. He intently listened in as to not interrupt the blob that had begun to speak very proudly of their writing they were doing. Drizzle strolled toward the two blobs and continued to listen. Without realizing it drizzle muttered to himself quietly.
"come to think of it, I've been meaning to work on my book for this place. perhaps by listening I can find inspiration in their books. maybe I should ask them about their work."
Drizzle heard a shushing coming from behind the librarian's desk and realized he had been speaking out loud. the two blobs that were conversing approached Drizzle and he began to whisper to them.
"sorry for interrupting you, I overheard you two talking about your writings, um... I am working on something too."
Drizzle felt nervous in that moment. his social anxiety was beginning to take over. but drizzle felt he could overcome the feeling and spoke a few more words

The blobbling he approached seemed rather... shy, but for his means that would be fine. He placed his hands on his hips as observed the body language of the other. Speaking of body- the blob he was talking to was very different from Alistair himself in appearance. Almost white with splotches of orange and green for coloration. His paws didn't look as if they could grip a pen to write very easily, but he had seen other blobs overcome much more difficult jobs so who was he to judge? He was just thankful himself for his own hands and fingers that eased the process along a little bit. " Ah, wonderful. " he responded in kind, gesturing to the notebook in hand. " I've been having a bit of a.. block, creativity wise you could say. Would it be alright if I joined you? If I have someone else to speak with, maybe I could create something a bit easier.. with a bit more.. quality? " he didn't admit it, but he hadn't spent much time perusing or reading the books contained within the library. Which did mean with writing he was, effectively, winging it by his understanding of spoken stories alone.
Though he quickly turned his attention to the second blob he wasn't even aware had been here earlier. Whispering out to join their conversation about writing. The more the merrier, anyway. " Well, if you heard we were working on something than I'm sure you heard my whole spiel. " he chuckled. He contemplated what to respond in terms of his name- opening his mouth to speak again before he settled on just his name alone. " Alistair. " While his usual idea of holding some sort of mystery, and playing a game to have them truly figure it out, did come to mind... they already appeared nervous enough just speaking with him. Somehow, internally, he doubted they would have appreciated any sort of mind games. If he wanted them to stay around and write with him, he'd simply have to play nice for now. Perhaps they'd be a bit more keen when they got to know him.

So it was confirmed that the 'as well' meant that they were also a writer. 'It also seems that he is also having trouble writing, similar to my situation', Nigiri thought. Another blob was introduced to the two of them, this time a non-humanoid such as himself. It looked that they also were interested in writing, though, it didn't look like they had many appendages that could wield a utensil according to Nigiri. He was considering how it would work. 'Maybe the mouth or legs'.
They introduced themselves as Drizzle and asked for the names of Nigiri and the blob next to him. It nocked Nigiri out of his runaway train of thought. The humanoid blob responded after a bit of thought with the name of 'Alistair'. He wondered why it took a bit. "Mmn. I'm Nigiri." His words were slightly louder from when he first spoke, but Nigiri didn't feel like adding on to his sentence. He then started another side-thought. 'Then again, if I want better data, I might as well make acquaintances. Better put up appearances. Maybe I'll like them in the end. Maybe.'
It didn't help that Nigiri was untrusting and skeptical of almost any living thing on Terrea. Especially the intelligent kind. He decided to do what was called 'socializing and starting conversation.'
"Working on a Terrea reference book. You two?" Even though this would be his first few conversations ever, looked like he had a pre-Terrea habit of 'blob of few words'.
Drizzle stared at the two other blobs for a moment before speaking. He was still nervous, but also he was determined to socialize more.
"well it is nice to meet you both."
Drizzle sighed as he tried to get more words in. Luckily it seemed he wasn't the only blob with social and speaking nervousness. Drizzle zoned out in thought for a moment. He was thinking of ways to express his mutual feeling and hoped it would make them all feel less alone. Suddenly Drizzle snapped back into the conversation when Nigiri asked a question. He turned to Nigiri to answer.
"I am working on a fictional fantasy story. that reference book sounds really cool. I'd love to read it sometime."
Drizzle turned back to Alistair and stared for a few seconds before saying a few more words.
"Alistair, I've seen that name on a book here, Did you happen to write any books for the library?"
In that moment Drizzle started to feel more anxious. If he had thought wrong about Alistair he would feel bad for putting him on the spot, and if he were right he would feel bad for calling him out. Drizzle started to regret saying more.

Nigiri huh? Well it was nice to have a name for both of the blobs standing before him now as well. Nigiri themselves never answered the question fully, but considering they didn't walk away and continued speaking on what they were working on- Alistair considered agreement of their own sort. They didn't seem to be speaking much after all. Though getting them talking about their book and interests may get them to open up more than they were currently displaying. " I dabble in fiction myself. I tend to lean more towards.. horror? Or the unknown. A guide to terrea may be useful for my purposes. You have to understand the rules in order to break them. " Or so he heard anyways.
He nodded when it came to Drizzle's response. Fiction and fantasy being fairly close to his own sort of writing, though Drizzle didn't explain any further than that on where their interests in writing lie. Expanding his horizons and actually reading some more stories may be good for him. He raised his eyebrow though, he hadn't expected someone to have heard his name before. Especially for a relatively new book under a code name. They were rather intelligent- or perhaps the librarian just told them since they were in the library for an unknown amount of time before Alistair noticed them. " I have yes, but only one. "

Nigiri kept hovering and coiled in and out of different loop configurations with his body to spend the short time Alistair and drizzle talked instead of doing nothing. He was debating how much he should talk. One of them, Drizzle, seemed to talk just as little as he did, while Alistair was definitely the leader of the conversation. After all, they did start it. Nigiri did sort of want to contribute more to the general conversation, or at least start asking questions to fill in some research.
He gestured towards an empty table in the library with one of his front paws."Perhaps we should use a table for longer conversation?" Nigiri was starting to get used to speaking. Maybe he could even start asking them questions once they all get settled at a table. Nigiri came here to do more research anyways, so he planned to sit at a table no matter what. He wondered if it would be a tad bit rude to start heading over himself. As he took a look back towards Alistair and Drizzle, he led the way towards one of the empty tables. He sat most of his coils upon the chair and folded his two front paws on-top of each other on the table.
He started gathering different questions that he could potentially ask. He was also preparing himself to be questioned in turn of course.
Drizzle nodded to agree with Nigiri. He thought about how perhaps sitting would be nice. Drizzle followed Nigiri to the table and waved Alistair to come with him. Drizzle contemplated whether to sit in a chair or on the ground. He could also float but that would also take a lot of energy and would defeat the purpose of gathering around the table. After thinking for a moment Drizzle grabbed on to the leg of a chair with his tail and pushed it to the table. Drizzle then curled his tail under is body and sat on top of his tail within the chair. Drizzle felt comfy and relaxed now that he was sitting. After sitting down Drizzle realized he left his stuff in the corner where he was sitting before meeting Alistair and Nigiri.
"oh.. I forgot my journal over there, maybe my meowler Connie can help."
Drizzle whistled for Connie and Connie came right to Drizzle. Drizzle felt nervous though because he wasn't sure they had trained enough together. Connie could sense Drizzle's nerves and let out a quiet meow. Drizzle then commanded Connie to bring the bag. Connie looked confused for a moment then figured out what Drizzle was asking of her. Connie did exactly what she was told and Drizzle turned to Nigiri and Alistair.
"I hope you like meowlers. This is Connie. I've been training her a lot recently. what she just did was a very new trick I taught her."
Drizzle felt confident in his Meowler Training skills then, but worried Connie would disrupt the conversation. Drizzle stalled and waited for the others to say something.

Alistair glanced between the two as they spoke, obviously neither one was nearly as big on conversation as he was. Drizzle seemed generally nervous, but it was the body movements of Nigiri that did admittedly have a little entraced. His own body was toughed, though still squishy. While Nigiri was able to move and twist in ways he hadn't thought possible. Hmm... perhaps that was a thought he could explore more fully later. He nodded his head once more as Nigiri suggested seating, watching the blobling glid away without waiting for so much as an answer to sit at one of the nearby tables. Drizzle setting off shortly after, and seemingly beckoning Alistair forwards along with them.
He didn't stand around for very long after that, walking over to join them at the table and taking his seat crosslegged, placing his own journal and pen down on the table in front of them. " No worries about the journal- " he started before whistling sounded out and meowler bounded towards them book in mouth. He shook his head out of amusement, and in response to Drizzle's question. " I have no issues with Meowlers. I have a Lokit myself, that often helps me keep track of my own affairs. So, Drizzle, what kind of fantasy books do you specialize in yourself? Is there something you had in mind? "

Nigiri was glad that Alistair and Drizzle followed him to the table to sit. After all, it took a little bit of energy to keep himself afloat, and he didn't particularly like walking. It made him slow. He watched with intrigue as he studied how Alistair and Drizzle sat upon their chairs. It looked that Drizzle sat upon their tail, somewhat similar to how he was sitting. Alistair took their own approach by folding their long legs under themselves to sit on. Like always, Nigiri was thinking of random thoughts as he found out that he technically was sitting in an in-between position compared to the two. One was on their tail, and one was on their legs. Nigiri was doing both, considering his legs and tail were very close by each other, and that he was so long.
He was knocked once more out of thoughts and surprised when Drizzle made a sharp loud noise to call over this 'Connie'. Up came a meowler that he only saw in books. It looked intelligent enough that it even followed orders to retrieve the bag. 'How curious' he thought. He shook his head as he spoke."No issue."
While the two of them started speaking of their books, Nigiri quickly got off his chair and floated over to grab a notebook and writing utensil. After that, he drifted back into his seat once more. He was planning on actually getting writing in this time, so he might as well grab this. Meanwhile, Nigiri was slowly trying to build up words to speak when he was called upon, for he knew it would be eventually.
Drizzle was glad that his meowler was acceptable company for Nigiri and Alistair. He noticed that Nigiri had a particular interest in Connie's behavior. Before he could talk to Nigiri about that, Alistair chimed in and asked drizzle about his fantasy novel. Specifically he was asked about what kind of fantasy he liked to write. Drizzle then spoke in a calm manner. at this point, his nervous feelings had fully subsided.
"Ah yes, my style of fantasy is otherworldly stories. My current story is about an artist in another land who is in the middle of a battle for the land. I don't want to say much more as not to ruin the story for others that might read it."
Realizing how much he had spoken Drizzle suddenly felt odd, he had never had such a long sentence flow out of him. He suddenly felt he had said to much and his anxiety was creeping back in. Drizzle started petting his meowler with the end of his tail to try and calm down.
After all that Drizzle decided to talk to Nigiri for a moment.
"So... um... Would you want to tell me about some of your observations? I don't know much about non fiction writing but would love to learn about it."
Post by SushiDragon101 on Nov 7, 2022 21:58:06 GMT -5
The moment Nigiri was preparing for arrived just as he expected, though it was a little too soon for his taste. He was asked about what observations that he had in regards to his nonfiction. The problem was though, he only had studied since coming into Terrea not so long ago. Sure, he had seen the flora that grows around Onixia since he only frequented the library, but Nigiri was ashamed to say that the meowler at Drizzle's feet was the first fauna he'd ever seen. Nigiri was very young compared to most blobs he had come in contact with, which was unfortunately just these two. Sure, he's seen some others come in and out of the library, but this was the first time he's met and conversed to anyone at all. He was annoyed at himself at how young and inexperienced he was. Of course, his pride wouldn't allow any of this to show, at least, not on purpose.
So instead of heavily leaning in observations, he spoke of the future contents of the book. He glanced his head in Drizzle's direction as he spoke. "The plan is to draw detailed scaling of flora and fauna compared to standard blobs. Location, weaknesses, reproduction, edibility, and so on. Page for each entry."
He turned his head to focus one eye back to Drizzle's meowler. He immediately followed his response with a question. "If you wouldn't mind, my meowler entry needs a visual. Connie would do." Nigiri wasn't too versed in being polite, only speaking what he wants with no filter, being just born and all. He still had yet to learn those sort of things.
Nigiri then turned his head towards Alistair, looking at him with one eye on the side of his head and included him in his offer. "Mnh, your lokit too."
Post by grimmreminder on Nov 8, 2022 13:32:47 GMT -5
Well, that settled that issue then. The meowler seeming to stick close by to its owner and no one else truly had an issue. At this point, they all had their notebooks and the serious part of the conversation had begun. " A battle, huh? " he tapped one of his pointed fingers against his own mouth as he contemplated the thought of that. " The last time I remember a battle other than my own experience in the arena was the battle in B's village. " of course, that had entirely been due to the... situation with Vermin and was still very much so a threat that could rise again. A thought that left chills down his own spine. A battle could be scary, and that certainly was a train of thought Alistair would be happy to explore on his own. The battle-borns were created from the strife that happened before after all. " Otherworlds certainly sound interesting though. I tried to base my own previous book after Terrea itself, just with twists that wouldn't necessarily happen. Like.. the stories blobs would tell eachother over vulkiln fire. " Even blobs in their own way seemed to take after themes that might be unsettling for some. The glow of Cea's wisps reminding him of the own story he wrote- and Yume's entire appearance resembled the tar non-chaos blobs tended to avoid.
Even still, he was drawn back into the conversation as it was passed on to Nigiri. It was his turn to share some about his own story, and Alistair could only hope he was helping them both warm up to the idea of discussing their own books outloud. " I bet you're an explorer then, there are a lot of fauna and flora to be seen out there. I don't think even I have had much experience with nearly any of them. I think that sort of thing would be useful though. " he glanced towards the door of the library at the mention of his Lokit, though. " Zephyr, my Lokit, isn't here with me in the library. Though they are around Onyxia somewhere. I'm sure they wouldn't mind for a little while. As for meowlers- " he glanced towards Connie, pointing his finger to make a point. " You may want more than just one to reference. Their appearances have similarities but a lot change. Especially their height if thats something you wanted to draw out. I don't have a meowler myself, but they're pretty common and I've seen some in my time. Just walking around Onyxia you're sure to run into a couple I'm sure. "

Nigiri was listening to Alistair speak of battles that were both fictional and historical. It was rather interesting to hear of new information without having to look through books. Maybe interacting with others was more beneficial than just reading after all. He put that thought into the back in his head for later.
Again, Nigiri was reminded that he knew next to nothing after hearing Alistair mention that Nigiri probably was an explorer. He was going to be one eventually, if he would just stop researching in the library. He knew that flora and fauna differed from one another both physically and mentally, though none so much as bloblings and meowlers. Bloblings was almost impossible to record, since he had no clue on how any blob evolves, why, and what they could evolve. It would probably take a book of its own, and it would likely be theoretical and not factual. Meowlers on the other hand did definitely vary wildly, but at least you could easily recognize one of them.
Nigiri definitely agreed with Alistair with multiple refrences."Heard there is a popular taming pen. I think it would be a good start for that."
So instead of drawing Connie the meowler in their entirety, Nigiri listed all their traits, including the color of eyes, fur, and a bunch of other thingss colors. Amounts of appendages, and almost everything he could think of. 'At this point, I might as well sketch them in case I forgot something' he thought. The drawing of the meowler had a very rough sketch of Nigiri next to it as a size reference.
Nigiri ended up sketching Connie after all. He planned to sketch a large amount of others at the taming pens too. Of course, that's his next plan after this current research session. It would be his first time going to another place once this is done.
After sketching, he didn't have much to speak about. After all, he said what he was going to do, and Drizzle didn't want to spoil any more of their story. Alistair also said their story plan, so Nigiri was at a loss. His mind went back to pets and that the other two had one. He finally had a question that he would actually want answered.
