Max stepped back and admired his handy work. A dome like structure stood in front of him. It was made from limbs from bleeding heart trees that were lashed together with glowing grape vines. A rather large crooked door graced one end. It had taken a long time to make. Now to go and get his meowler. He was hoping to get a big one that would help him on his quest to hunt down monsters. He patted the pen and then left for the meowler pens he had heard so much about.
Max frowned around the leash in his mouth. Oh he had gotten a meowler but it was not one of the big ones. Oh no he managed to get one of the smallest meowlers there were. Why did it have to be soooo small. He glanced down at it. It only came up to his knee. How was this little thing going hunt monsters with him. He would be afraid that it would get stepped on. He would put it in the pen that he had made and think about it. Maybe he could trade it for a much bigger and fiercer looking meowler.
Ah here it was. He walked around it looking to see if there was any repairs that needed to be done. But every thing looked good.
He placed the meowler in the pen, took off the leash and shut the door. And started to walk away. And then it dawned on him. He had made the pen with a large meowler in mind not a small one like the one he just put in there. The gapes in the pen would be to large to keep the meowler in. He turned to rush back to the pen but his worst fears were realized when he noticed the little black meowler was just finishing squeezing its self through one of the gaps. It looked up at him with its red face and with one push popped through. It took off running.
Oh no it did not! It did not just escape! He had trekked through swamp and sand just to get the little meowler. Max took off. He dodged trees and tree roots. And splashed through small puddles and jumped over the larger ones. But the little meowler kept on going.
"Get back here!" Max growled out.
Finally the meowler stopped. It looked tired its little sides heaving as it took great gulps of air.
"Gotcha!" Max cried out as he sprung. The meowler moved and Max missed only to realize that he had been tricked. He braced himself for impact with the water. He came up spluttering.
A little red face stared down at him with unblinking starlight eyes. Max grinned up at her. Maybe she would be perfect after all.
